Award Winning Producer, Zou Zhou Yuan 鄒築園

Located in Alishan of Chiayi County, Zou Zhou Yuan is perhaps the most famous of all Taiwanese coffee farms. Owner Cheng-Lun Fang comes from a family of tea and moth orchid farmers and is a member of the Aboriginal Zou Tribe. As certified Q-graders, he and his wife grow many varieties of coffee seedlings in his nursery and spend time cupping individual trees to carefully select every single tree planted in his farm. He believes if Taiwan cannot compete with other coffee origins in quantity, then we shall excel in quality.

Zou Zhou Yuan's lot of natural Geisha was placed 9th in Taiwan COE 2023, with a score of 88.42, and was auctioned off for $76 (USD/lb). This COE lot cherries was floated before going to the greenhouse. They dry for 25 days at a maximum daytime temperature of 40°C, with no nighttime temperature control. Once dried, they're stored at room temperature.

    Alishan, Taiwan

Situated in southern Taiwan, Alishan or Mt Ali is a beautiful mountain range with an average altitude of 2500m. It is typically a tea producing region renowned for its top quality 'high mountain' tea, thanks to its climate and altitude. Interestingly coffee in this region has also been known for its tea-like sweetness resembling Assam or jasmine tea.

While Taiwan is relatively unknown as a coffee producing origin, it has started producing limited quantity of specialty grade arabica in recent years with success backed by record breaking auctions results.

In April 2021, one bag of 5kg Alishan coffee was auctioned off for a record of appx. AUD$21,000. This is on par with some of most expensive coffees in the world such as Panama COE.
